D Penny Whistle Improv/Jam Workshop

This workshop is not a traditional “session” as is popular with Irish musicians where everybody plays melody on one traditional song after another traditional song. Mostly this will be more of a play along coached jam session.

While Debby plays rhythmic chords on the guitar, or whatever instrument she feels like picking up, I will give instructions on how to experiment playing something that sounds musical and blends with the chords she is playing. I will then demonstrate a few example measures of improvised phrases by myself. Then I’ll stop playing whistle so muted participants can experiment themselves. I will give coaching like suggestions while folks play and welcome questions all along the way.

Another goal of this workshop is to help participants get more comfortable with their whistle(s) by working on developing more rewarding improvosational strategies that can be used when playing alone.

No book is available to go along with this workshop. We will be doing this mostly by ear. PDFs of the screens shared during the workshop will be emailed to the participants before the workshop.
