Barn Dance Fiddle Tunes for Two

36 traditional tunes arranged into 22 medleys for two instruments, with chords for back-up musicians included.

Each Tunes for Two collection consists of individual spiral-bound duet books presented in score form with melody on the top line and harmony beneath so you can play each tune by yourself or with others. The tunes are laid out so that there are no page turns to interrupt the flow of your playing. Duo arrangements of the tunes in this collection, in the same keys, are available for violins, violas, cellos, basses, and mandolins.

PDFs are available worldwide for each of the books in the Tunes for Two series.

A companion CD that may be used with any of the books for any of the instruments in this series is also available.

The Barn Dance Fiddle Tunes for Two CD features Deborah Greenblatt performing all of the tunes in The Barn Dance Fiddle Tunes for Two series books on violin. The melody part comes out of one stereo speaker and the harmony part comes out of the other speaker. By adjusting your stereo’s balance control you can isolate either part so you can play the other part along with it. This CD may be used with any of the books for any of the instruments in the The Barn Dance Fiddle Tunes for Two series.

Reviews...

“Each tune is clearly delineated, so when playing for a dance, the group will probably want to play each tune in the medley several times before going to the next one. The tunes are laid out nicely with no page turning between tunes. Guitar chord symbols for accompaniment are included, so savvy teachers can help young string players learn how to improvise rhythm patterns to go along with the chord progressions. Also available is a companion CD featuring the violin playing of Greenblatt. The songs use typical fiddle keys of C, G, D, and A major, and A and D minor. Time signatures are 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, and 6/8. All tunes are in first position, and all include an optional kick-off. Some rhythms are tricky, including syncopation, dotted rhythms, and sixteenth note passages. This collection can be very useful for starting, or continuing with, a fiddle club.”
