Singing Sailing Fiddling Tunes for Two

These 29 traditional and original tunes are arranged for two instruments, with song lyrics and chords for back-up musicians included.

Each Tunes for Two collection consists of individual spiral-bound duet books presented in score form with melody on the top line and harmony beneath so you can play each tune by yourself or with others. The tunes are laid out so that there are no page turns to interrupt the flow of your playing. Duo arrangements of the tunes in this collection, in the same keys, are available for violins, violas, cellos, basses, and mandolins.

PDFs are available worldwide for each of the books in the Tunes for Two series.

Reviews...

“...Motivating collection...No tunes extend beyond first position. There’s something in the rhythms that energizes you, something in the lyrics that guides your progress, and something in the melodies that sustains you through troubled seas. The harmony parts... are very interesting, making these duets a terrific addition to any gig repertoire. They could be used in a private studio or school curriculum that includes small ensemble experiences--just make sure the students sing out the lyrics strong and clear, as they tell powerful stories!”
- Nola Campbell
American String Teacher, February, 2010

“Once again Ms. Greenblatt has produced a wonderful collection of tunes for two violas. This album includes a wide variety of sea chanties in the British tradition, coming from both sides of the Atlantic and including the ‘Cape Cod Chanty’ (also known as ‘We’re Bound for South Australia’). All pieces include the words for each song and chord indications for any accompaniment instrument that may wish to play along. The melody is in the 1st viola part throughout and the the 2nd viola has the harmony line. In this album the rhythm for both viola parts is identical for the most part. The pieces can be played as solos (playing the 1st viola line), viola duets or one or two violas with accompaniment (an instrument improvising from the given chords). Both parts for all the pieces can be played entirely in 1st position and all are grade 2 and 3 level.
Like all Greenblatt & Seay’s duet books, these duets are possible with other stringed instruments (violin, cello, bass or mandolin - all the books are in the same keys and are published separately for violins, violas, cellos, basses or mandolins).
Highly recommended.”
- Dr, Michael Vidulich, President Emeritus
Australian and New Zealand Viola Society

“...The pieces are all in accessible keys and in fairly simple meters (4/4 and 6/8), making the pieces suitable for the less advanced player. The upper and lower lines use mostly parallel rhythms, which would be helpful for a studet who is reading along with a teacher. Words for all the songs are inclued and, since the collection is also available in versiions for two violins, cellos, basses or mandolins, there are many possibilities for some entertaining music-making with friends.”
